DJ Topspin is the name, BIG TUNES is his game. He's spent more than half of his life digging for, & playing records. Music is a non-stop affair for this world class DJ, recording artist, producer, college graduate, international businessman, & record label founder. His production track record started off brightly with the first release on the Tribal Music label, Untranslated Prescriptions, followed by production for their 2nd release, the highly touted 'Do The Math', '14 Fathoms Deep' (Loosegroove Records), and Classic Elements (K Records) compilations. Topspin had featured songs on the 14 Fathoms Deep Compilation released on Loose Groove, and Sinsemilla released a 12" single that charted well in Destiny/Haters back in 2001.


Back at a time where Hip Hop on radio waves in Seattle was virtually non-existent, (before Satellite radio)Topspin took the do-it-yourself route and started his own "virtual" radio station, 101.1 KTOP FM* (where *FM stood for Fat Mixtapes). His notoriety began to bubble in Seatown & throughout the nation as he distributed the mixtape "broadcasts" from store to store throughout the Northwest from the back of his trunk, & to other markets. The mixshow-styled casettes continued to be a good source for listeners to hear Northwest and national artists that commercial radio failed to recognize alongside more popular songs. "People are so busy trying to be 'the one' to blow up from Seattle that they often don't take time to support the next man - this is my way of doing just that,” explained Topspin.


In 1994 he joined Nasty Nes as co/host & DJ for Seattle's groundbreaking Hip-Hop mixshow 'Rap Attack'. His notoriety soon earned him his own radio show on KEXP entitled “Street Sounds” alongside his fellow West Coast mixtape master, DJ B-Mello, & DJ Mr. Supreme (from Conception Records), introducing him to the masses and making DJ Topspin a household name. The success of “Street Sounds” lead to Groovetech.com giving him an additional internet radio show entitled “Soul, Style & Truth”, also co-hosted & DJ'd by Mr. Supreme, which garnered even more international acclaim. He's been in numerous publications (The Source, Rap Pages, VIBE Magazine, 4080, The Flavor,) & has shared the stage & turntables with many of Hip-Hop's elite talent (Showbiz & AG, DJ Shadow, Jeru Tha Damaja, The Roots, Questlove, De La Soul, DJ Maseo, Sugarhill Gang, Slick Rick, Biz Markie, Jazzy Jeff, & on, & on).


Growing up in a house with a brother who was a professional tenor in training, played a big role in the development of his ear, which has been the cornerstone of his selection. "Hearing a classically trained tenor constantly at the piano practicing, getting the correct tone did something for me sonically,” explains Topspin. “You can definitely hear it in the way I mix, & in every one of my blends; they're the best out there, PERIOD. A lot of DJ's can put an acapella over a different beat, or even transition between two beats and call it a blend, but the tone doesn't match, or it gets off beat & all. That's not a blend, that's a nice try. A DJ Topspin blend is sonically and musically on point throughout the whole song, all day, every day.".


The proof is in the product. DJ Topspin is an award winning Mixtape Master, as recognized by various publications, including the largest Mix-CD review site on the net, www.rapmullet.com. In 2005, Topspin's 'VELOUR VIBES' series catapulted him into their HALL OF FAME. In 2006, Topspin will also be releasing a 4 peice remix / mashup / blend series on vinyl overseas, entitled 'Soul Control Remixes', showcasing his unmistakeable ear, pairing the illest of producers (J-Dilla, Hi-Tek, Kanye, Battlecat, & more, along with a few DJ Topspin produced remixes), with timeless vocalists (Mary J.
